Hubby is pretty sure it's the starter, we towed it home (I hate towing with our own truck - scarey) and got it in the garage. He is going to work on it tonight after work. Poor guy - the garage isn't even heated!

From the information I have been able to find, brown or black coloration is common and babies can be either black or brown when hatched. I don't know which is preferable. We really need to get together and decide what the goal is so we know what traits to avoid.

I completely agree. I was hoping my pullets would get a little (just a little) bigger before they lay. These would be 9/15 and 9/22 hatches but I'm not sure which is which. What shade of brown was the egg?

It was a nice medium brown color. I took a picture but it wasn't impressive all cracked and oozing

Hopefully I'll get another!

Thats very exciting about the egg Kari!

If they lay more, will you save and hatch, or enjoy as brunch??? The last good eggs I had were the ones from Trish in Iowa City. Wishing for more all the time. (giant sigh). We just can't get them up here.

Sorry to hear about your car issues Steph. Maybe, it's just water in the fuel filter and a quick r&r and you'll be full steam ahead. I am far from a mechanic however. I bleed when I look at a wrench!

David and I are up in MN now. Gonna go get haircuts, Milford barber was busy so said the heck with it and headed North. Guess there's gonna be a hockey tourney in New Ulm as well and some of them are staying at this hotel too. OH JOY! Just what I need hormoned up boys running up and down the halls all night long, none with any front teeth. At least we are away from the pool.

Mike is fairly mechanical and he is 90% sure its the starter. Even the guy at the local Autozone thinks the same thing. He has been pretty good for correct information before.

It's an easy fix.

Eric I would send you some eggs but they would crack before they got to you

Maybe we can bring you some to Waverly...

I will if I can get any fertile eggs. Blu just started getting busy. They will all probably be mutts but the feed store guy always takes them from me - He is a hoot!

That's my plan as well. My cuckoo marans and EE's have finally started laying well again. Now, if the Ameracaunas and RIR's would kick it up a notch I'd be good to go.

Here are a couple pix from the pounding I got from this last storm. I've lived here 20 years and this is the worst my road has ever drifted.

It took the maintainer over an hour just to clear my 1/2 mile stretch.

It's almost over the top of my Jeep in several places.

But, it's going to be 30 tomorrow so I'm thinking spring and baby chicks:D

Kari,
I think a Feb 27th incubation/hatching party sounds great. I am so anxious to start hatching. We are going to do some modifications to the bator this weekend and see if we can get the temps to equalize a little better. Hubby made me a large cabinet bator last year, it works quite well, the temp at the top says 100 while at the bottom, it is out 96-97. Hopefully, with a little tweeking I can improve hatch rates.
Emptynest,
Wow, those snow pictures - nasty snow. We lucked out here, didn't get near that much, and it was still miserable and COLD. Much better today, it think we hit 30 or so today.

Think SPRING everyone - Waverly Swap - April 10, anyone else going?
