IA here

The other muscovy has ducklings under her too this morning. Mom #1 led 7 ducklings out and about today and left the nest with some pipping and chirping. When it became apparent that she wasn't coming back, I brought the eggs in. One has hatched, I have it under a heat lamp. It was almost hatched out in the nest. The other 2 I wrapped in wet paper towels and put them in the incubator with my day 7 chicken eggs. I will see what the next few hours brings and hopes it doesn't screw up my chicken eggs to have elevated humidity for a few hours.

Tira - sorry about your orloff. Did it act sick at all or was it attacked?

Art - thanks for the tour of your place yesterday. Mike is jealous of all your outbuildings

Sparky also had a good time. He slept all the way home and then most of the evening. I literally had to drag him out at 10pm for his last potty break! Then he slept like a log all night.

Well being introduced to my single magpie duckling broke the broody. So now I have 1 lone duck in with 7 poults and 6 chicks. They seem to get along just fine, but I doubt it's an ideal situation. Trish have your Pekin babies hatched yet?

Kari, I'm still waiting on them. They look to be very close though. I'm thinking any day now. I have a big mess of eggs to set. My cousin Josh was helping with chores one day and found a nest of 20. Plus the other's I've gathered.

Hey, Kari. Was it you that talked to Jim Heinz about Iowa Blue's? He's getting back into chickens in a big way and is interested in helping with the project. He said he talked to a lady out your way. He thought it may be you but wasn't sure?

Well 2 of the muscovy eggs I put in the incubator so far have made it and they are out in the brooder. I still have one in the bator, hatched but drying out. I don't know on that one yet. As soon as I get that one out of the bator, hopefully later today, I am going to have to clean the incubator some. So I suppose I put the chicken eggs in egg cartons for a few mintues, clean up the bator and then put them back in and hope for the best.

Steph... I love the coloring on your ducks!

Chiggerbit... welcome from southwest IA!
