Hello, we are new to chickens and live in Warren County, Iowa. We are so new, we don't even have any yet!!

We have placed an order with Murray McMurray Hatchery and will pick them up in about 2 weeks. We are bursting with excitement. We have been working on converting a garden shed to a coop and are almost done.

We have never had chickens before (except hubby had some as a kid). We hope to sell the eggs and cover the costs of feeding and keeping the chickens. How do I find out any laws or regulations that I need to follow for selling the eggs? We plan to just have a sign in our front yard and sell to whomever. Our neighbors used to have chickens and their egg sign was always covered because they were sold out of eggs. (neighbors have since moved so we are not competing with them).

I don't have a chick hatched yet but by this time next week I could have over 20 hatched with another 20 every week.

I too am interested in selling eggs in Iowa. My chicks are only five days old. When I mentioned at work that I was getting them, I had a friend already committed to buying eggs. Where do I find the regulations?

I am so excited! tonight i am going to set both my buff orpingtons on eggs!! I finally got they area in the coop all sectioned off! So I'll have chicks just before Easter. I was going to wait until the 17th, but my one buff is getting so cantankerous about me taking her eggs, and hubby had time today to get the area all ready, that I just can't wait any longer!!!

I guess I didn't know there were regulations for selling eggs out of your own home. Some days I think I'd like to do that, and other days i'm glad I don't cause between my family and friends, I usually have just enough each week for us. ;-)

Maybe there aren't regulations, I assumed there were as everything seems to be regulated! Cool about the new coming chicks!

As far as I know, there are no regulations for selling eating eggs. Shipping eggs and selling raw milk in Iowa are another matter entirely. There may be regulations for eating eggs, but rarely communities don't have the manpower to regulate such laws.
