IA here

Craig I do not envy chicken washing day at your house! For mine I use 3, 5 gal buckets, if a white bird, 4. I dunk and scrub (always keeping their head above water of course) rinse in vinegar water, then peremethrin or mectrin and glycerin, if white, a dip in bluing and water before the debug/shine spa. Give them a twist in a towel, and set them on the deck railing to dry in the sun. Have never had one fly away. They are usually so mad they sit there like pouty children! 75F forecast for here today and sunny. Tomorrow is expected to be 81 and sunny as well but will try and get them done today.
Trish, I will ask Lora, to send you a couple of phone numbers or I will PM them to you as well. Don't have a website. Scribner is a double show as well I think. Presently I can not find the show catalog. But have a copy of the entry form which lists that they must be postmarked buy April 11th however they may make exceptions. I am not positive but June may be the Portage, WI show?

I've only been to Portage once and loved it. If I miss the ad in Poultry press post it here. A good show with very good competition.

I use a 5 step system for washing all my birds. The first one is a little different for my white based birds. I actually use a prewash to get off the nastiest , then I wash in a dish soap (tide with bleach alternative for my white birds), rinse in a vinegar water, clear water rinse, then a final rinse in a bucket with a touch of fabric softener(it both gives them a nice scent and keeps feathers soft). That is what I feel I need to do with soft feather birds. (Cochins, silkies, frizzles)
Then like you I wrap in a towel for 20 minutes then let air dry if it is warm enough. If not I get to use a hair dryer. I have one in my show box if you ever need one at a show.

Craig, I used to use tide when bathing my paint and grey horses when getting ready for a show. Got white gleaming!

The show that was in Richland Center is June 2.

Quoted from a friend:"You have good timing-I just got a show catalog in the mail yesterday for a new spring show in WI. I knew they were trying to put one together but since I hadn't heard anything I had assumed it wasn't going to happen. I was very happy to get the information yesterday. This show will be in place of the Badger Poultry Show that was in Richland Center. The new show is the Coulee Region Poultry Show held at the Trempealeau county fairgrounds in Galesville WI on June 2nd 2012."

She is forwarding me the show catalog.

I'm pretty sure I called and requested a catalog for that one. I'll see if it comes in the mail today. Weeeee!

Hi folks, I ordered a book on how to show chickens, so maybe I can figure out where to start. Should be interesting - I read all you show folks' posts with great envy

I told jim I'd get a picture of my Frizzle Cochin. Supposed to be from show stock, I got his egg as a bonus with some SQ Barred Rocks.

Should a blue chicken have that red on his neck?

Love the barred rocks, they are so sweet! 3 cockerels and a pullet

No, he shouldn't have that red. That is leakage coming through. I have a JG rooster that has that too and a blue wellie cross cockerel with some of it.
