Well, we just went into lockdown. 25 eggs looked good, 7 looked bad. We lost power one night due to the hurricane. I don’t know how long it was out, so we were worried that we had lost the whole hatch.
This was the first time we candled since then. More could still be dead, but at least it is some good evidence. We had just been running the incubator out of hope to this point.
I am on day 2 of my 18 LF polish hatch. Last time I got 2 frizzled tolbunts and 2 smooth, and one of the frizzled is a roo. I will keep the roo and the 2 smooth, hopefully I will get some more smooth hens. I got a frizzled black crested white, who I thought was a roo, but no, she's a hen. I got 13 total, and before I sell any, I want to see what this hatch brings. I have a laying flock and sell eggs, but I think I'm going to stop because I want to concentrate on Polish. I love their funky hairdos and their funny personalities.
Good thing you found it in time! A perfect example of why we need to keep an eye (and a candler, lol) on our batches. That's my excuse, anyways!Oh man, I must have missed a crack in one of the eggs. It was oozing this morning! No smell though, weird.
