Icelandic Chickens

Laree hatched her out, I think it was just after the Easter Hatch... Boston says most of the Easter hatch girls have been laying for a while.

She's my only Icelandic... a black crested one.

I am trying to be careful but one thumb got bit yesterday, trying to nail with gloves on just doesnt work, so today taking more coffee breaks, and sticking hands in pockets time. It doesnt look like the Icees will get moved today, but close to doing it. In an hour lose the daylight, life goes on.

I did get the goats outside a couple days ago, but it took next to no talking to bring them back into their pen.

All of the feline persuasion are having hard afternoons naps, I am tempted to join them, but trying to get as much done as I can. Wishing big time that I had been able to make the move last summer, but , thats life, got it done now, and getting over the hump, things all in all are moving along, I will have the Icees moved shortly and have pens for two other groups of chickens.

I really do love it here, like minded folks, no jimmy carter and no OWS twits.

We have 20 bags of leaves now. It was chilly here today. Didn't even make 50. Dang, I still have alot of winterizing to get done. I just can not get warm! What's the deal with that..... old age or what?

I got 2 Icelandic eggs today.

Well, tell me, Jake and Mary, what do you think about Kola changing colors like that? Have you ever heard or seen this happen before? I swear she has less and less black each day. I find it so odd.

Hi Kathy

Kola is a beauty !!

I think almost all of mine have had color changing as they developed; for a while, Blue, my silver/gray/Blue pullet was all blue, then in the summer she developed a very fine tight gold lace to the edge of her cape, and now there is very little of it. She is a solid what I call a Self Blue.

Bjorn,#3 rooster was hatched a chipmunk pattern, a darker one, he was a light wheaten for awhile and then began to mature into a Blackbreasted RedBacked Duckwing with a gold cape, some gold on the back and a big white tuff on his back at the base of the tail. I only kept him over 4 other roos because he was the largest of his hatch. There have been similar color changes on most of them, its a fascinating process to me. Bjorn is only 6 mos old and one of the largest and very mature looking. I noticed as I finished today that the new pen is much better light, and I am hoping muchly to finally be able to get pics of them. I really do want to but like right now I am just ready to take a nap. Hands ache, and the head is nodding but still feeling great.

Life is good ! And better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats !

Kathy. Miss Polaris was almost solid grey with cream colored hackle feathers and now she is the prettiest mottled grey with blue and black. I can't explain it. But it's like opening a box of chocolates, TWICE!

Here are a couple of pictures. Not too good. She was less than cooperative.
