Mary Diana looks great !!! Even her grin says she's been good !
Kathy that rooster is why we have .22s with scopes, to reach out and touch them!
Once when I was upset when a heifer died on me a wise neighbor told me when you have livestock part of the price is that sometimes you lose them. Even if they are young chicks.

Glad to hear the eggs made it to you, and are all fine. Hope they are all fertile and we get a good hatch rate.
all outdoor water containers were frozen solid, 7inches of ice!... so I added smaller water bins inside the coop, but those too froze about 1/2inch deep even with the 250watt heat lamps on all night.
Guess its time to order some more of the heated water buckets! I currently have 2, one for goats, the other for the Icelandics.
Oh today I got 4 FBCM eggs!! which means all 4 hens layed today. woohoo that was a first!

It worked great on the indoor water dish, but in the cold part of winter we upped the wattage on the bulb to get more heat.
It works ok on the outside water in the milder temps, but if the wind kicks up it doesn't keep up as well. I'm going to build a box with some of the left over styrofoam insulation and see if that works for the dog bowl. The chickens and turkeys have water inside out of the wind.
I had 2 hens - Lost Luna to a predator, I still have Briet. I would love to have a whole flock of them, but right now it's not feasible. And I can't part with my Welsummers. (besides, that coop is in the orchard and I'd prefer to keep my fruit)
So until I can build another coop with a space away from my garden and orchard where they can roam, I will just have a few for broodies. (not to hatch their own, I promised Mary no crossing them, but to hatch my other breeds) But when I hatch some Isbar eggs from Mary, I'm going to take a few Icelandic eggs to hopefully get another hen.

Anytime - what are friends for? The little bantam cochin I had to put down also had that clicking sound when it breathed. You did the right thing.
Thanks Michelle for that great link on your waterer, I could have saved myself $45 if I had stopped and thought about this. I will need a couple more next year and this is what I will do.
It was 12 this morning, with some wind so it was 51 in here when I woke up, the wind has stopped thankfully and its up to 61 in here now, but still wanting my 3rd coffee for the morn,
