I was successful in breaking Kleo and then yesterday when I locked up the coop, Kella was on a nest!

I took her off and put her up on the roost with everyone else. She may have just been laying and got caught there at dark........she'd better NOT be back in there when I go look for eggs!!

. . . All three have an interesting walk, its an exaggerated strut with a careful lifting up and then putting it down, I am wondering if the foot feathers has caused them to do this to avoid stepping on them. I have never seen this in a chicken before. . .

Jake, I think it may have something to do with feathered legs. I have a Blue Copper Marans, and a, what I originally thought was an Ameraucana but she grew leg feathers, so she must be a mutt. Anyway, both of them walk that way, very careful and deliberate. None of my clean legged birds walk that way. Also, I was at a friends, and his Marans walk the same way; all feathered.

On another note, I have an Icee pullet, who has those soft silky feathers. She is very soft to hold too, with colouring like a pheasant (except she has a crest). Something like a Silkie, but not quite as much.

Got to wait for the snow to stop - it's really coming down here, and the batteries in the flash don't work when it's this cold. At least, they sorta do, but it's a delayed thing and the pics come out blurry.

oh gosh, bring her in the house, put a bow in her hair & there you go!! Just teasing you. Our snow melted into muddy crud but, good news, we are getting more fresh snow tomorrow - I can hardly wait.

Um, well I'd bring her in but after the bunny disaster (I had a house bunny until she jumped in hubby's lap and peed on him) he said no more house pets, AT ALL!

Good news today!! Kella was not on the nest again!! And.........I have 17 Icelandic pullets and hens that are 5 1/2 months or older and got 11 eggs!!
Temps today were in the mid 40s F but the high on Thur is forecast at 14 F with a low of 4 F.........

I know, I know......it's January in Illinois.......what do I expect....
