Icelandic Chickens

Sounds like you need a vacation!! Take care of yourself girl!! I'm glad to hear you were north of any of the scary weather experienced by others down there in Missouri.

I have to say that I'm so excited to have chicks! It's strange to think that such joy can be found in the hatching of chicks but even after a few years now, I just find it so much fun and love going out and watching them! It's a sign, for me, that Spring isn't far off! Mine aren't as big of pets as some because I chose to have broodies raise them, but they do recognize early on that I'm the treat person and already I can hear their excited peeping when they hear me outside their door! Who can resist that!!

Not I said the little red hen.

:)

Today the Icelandics are on strike. After months and months of faithful service today they laid NADA!

I think it's just the side effect of moving into new digs. At least I hope that's it. Nothing else changed except they moved 12 feet farther north. Tomorrow is another day and hopefully it will yield some pretty white eggs.

That is why I moved mine around on February 12, I knew they'd throw a tizzy-fit!!

Kella didn't lay for weeks when I put her in with Dreki. She is Audun's girl and was letting me know she wasn't happy with me. Today I finally got five eggs from the five pullets in that pen.....persistant she is!! I'll be letting them all back into the main coop once the Easter Hatchalong eggs have been sent out and then they'll all have to re-acclimate to that!

Good Night All!!

I knew it was a probability but this is a one way trip. The pen is done so there they shall stay.

I'm not worried, they are resilient little things, they'll be back on track soon.

Kathy sorry you aren't feeling well. I know that feeling well. Today has been a major pain day so I am going to bed and try to sleep.

Mary I am sorry you only have one developing Isbar egg. It must be the shipping because mine are all fertile and developing well. I hope you at least get a couple more out of the next batch. Haven't heard anything from the guy who won the eBay auction but he left good feedback.

Anyway, sorry I haven't been on as much. I have a hard time sitting, standing or lying down. That doesn't leave me many options. Tomorrow is another day.

Take care all,

Mary

Mary, I hope you got some sleep and are feeling better today. I think the shipping is definitely the problem with the eggs. I, of course, had to put a few Icelandic eggs in with them as a "control group", you know, so when the one Isbar egg that is developing hatches, it will have company!

I collected 8 dozen eggs today. Brittney boiled up about 15 dozen today and them mashed them all up and fed them to the chickens. Boy, did they all love that!

PS........... I have ZERO eggs in the incubator.

Surprised, aren't ya? I haven't loaded it for weeks. I dunno why either..... just not up to it, I guess. I haven't been feeling real well, and everything seems like work lately, rather than like fun. This too shall pass........... I need to start taking vitamins or drinking that energy drink stuff. haha
Kathy, I hope you feel better soon.

Don't worry about me! I am going to have my Icelandic flock yet. After feeling sorry for myself and nursing a rotten cold...I just kept looking at that incubator...I made some revisions so that I can't make the same mistake again! I still can't help but feel bad for the chicks I lost, but I learned a lesson that will not be repeated. I am just getting to know you all here and already feel like I have some great new friends. I also admire Daron, who has gone through so much tragedy, but is determined to succeed! I am enjoying looking at all your pictures and am more sure that Icelandics are for me!
That's the spirit!

I still have not been able to completely take care of my birds. I let them out in the mornings and maybe carry out a waterer if it is needed. DH has been doing the rest.

Hey ya'll !! Its official ! Spring is 19 days or therbouts , so get happy !!

Kathy I am sitting here looking at your calendar and I know it wont fib to me.

Have some grape juice, vitamins, and all that good stuff.

And just so you know that misery loves company I have to put a new engine in my van.

Now theres a real whoopy ding ! It will be, if thats the worst problem I have I am pretty blessed !
