Icelandic Chickens

I have a hen setting on fake eggs right now, and if she still is tomorrow, I will give her some! Her sister is setting on 10 dorking eggs and doing well so lets hope! I also have one more dorking girl who just started thinking about getting broody today.....I am running out of room, as I have them all separated.....cleaning out the other shed tomorrow!

I showed rare restraint and didn't candle Mary's icelandic eggs until last night (day 8) and am thrilled to announce that all 11 icelandic eggs and 4 blue isbars are wiggling away! 100% growth - fingers crossed for 100% hatch! Woohoo!

Howdy, I come here by way of the FB group that was discussing the "frey" issue. I am new to raising chickens although I grew up around them. I'm Icelandic so I really wanted to have Icelandic chickens and right now I have 9 gorgeous young Icies. It's really exciting that so many people are owners and breeders of Icelandics, I can't believe how many posts there are on this thread! Anyway, here is a pic I took of my babies a couple of weeks ago:

I'm newer to Icelandic Chickens, just hatched my first few about 4 weeks ago. I also recognize the plastic fencing in the photo, we use that for pups, chicks, and goat kids.

Icelander - welcome to BYC. What a beautiful flock you have, I especially love the one in front, and the blue(??) on the left. I imagine you had to go thru alot of red tape importing eggs. Hope you will be posting regularly so we get to know you and your birds.

Thank you mlmddh! The blue girl's name is Sirrí, I have another bluish one with a brown collar, her name is Skráma, she's in the background in the pic below :)

Drumstick diva, that plastic fence is awesome, it's so useful. I bought it at a garage sale in my old neighborhood for 10 bucks. My chicks can fly over it, but they won't if my little dogs are patrolling the other side, they like to play chick patrol.

Welcome Icelander and what a beautiful flock you have. I would love to see another pic of Skráma. From what I see she looks very striking indeed.

Things have been busy here, we have been asked to host an exchange student from Denmark. We get to meet her tomorrow and see if she would be comfortable here. I had been setting up that room as an office and had to scramble and get it put back to a bedroom. Luckily a coworker had an extra bed because I gave away the one we had in there when my daughter moved out.

Anyway, I have about 35-ish Icelandic eggs ready to go into the bator tomorrow with a couple dozen blue eggs and some lovely chocolate ones. It's going to be a colorful egg basket at our house

The turkeys are already cooking and I think I see some veining but I think they've only been in 4 or 5 days so it's still a little early yet.

Anyway. I wanted to post the latest picture of the Icelandic's swing. It's not a pretty picture, I had to interrupt their beauty sleep cause they don't go to bed before I finish my chores so I had to make a late night foray out to the barn.

Thank you Michelle! I've pasted another pic of Skráma below that was taken a few weeks ago. I LOVE your tagline, by the way. I wish my coop was big enough for swings, what a great idea, no coyotes are climbing up that far! Anyway, here is the pic of my lovely little girl, her collar is more pronounced now, I'll try to grab another picture of her when I get a chance:

Icelander! Glad to have you on the thread.

Also glad that you'll be able to help the rest of us with genetic diversity in our flocks.
