Icelandic Chickens

Yeah I know, but it'll probably be awhile before I have my nankins established well enough to add another "project" to my plate. I have to get some utility back on the priority list before taking on another "but I want to" lol

Crappy picture, but you can see mama and her 6 new chicks. It is suppose to be only 68* tomorrow (and 65-70 for a week), so I guess I will keep them inside the garage a few more days. I will move them outside in about a week, to the dog house brooder apartment.

Ahhh, I love "broody momma with chicks" pictures!

Took all my Icelandic eggs from the incubator last night and put them under the three broody pullets..........

Welcome Griffenkid02!

Loving all the pictures! :D

My 7 out of 9 Icelandic eggs set are due to hatch on Sunday! Those eggs are part of the egg dipping project to see if the chicks will hatch out clean of MG from the infected parents. Please pray that the project works!

Wry neck, may have a six week old with it,

I have a trio six weeks old, (Marans), went out this morn and one pullet was behind the waterer, upside down, with a stiff neck, brought here in, and put her by a heater, she has been there all day, cant seem to get on her feet so I dont think it was from the cold, seems to affected her spinal column, anyone ever have one come out of this??

I held her for about an hour, with her head and neck up, gave her water which she drank, but she seems to be stuck in a position with her head and neck down.

Last eve she was a healthy contented pullet, now, a twisted neck cripple.

Bummer.

Griffin kid welcome to the site, let us know how your Nankinds are doing.

Jake, go on my website and search for "chick with wry neck" there is a video and a formula for vitamins and minerals to help. It is possible to fix but you have to do it soon.

The babies arrived today. Everyone is is settled intot he brooder and happily eating and drinking me into poverty. I'm so happy to be a momma. Trying not to over the helicopter momma thing, but these are my first chicks and they just SOOO much fun to watch.

Well, the other Mary/NotAFarm, must be giving some wonderful feed to her Icelandics. All 16 that she sent me made it to lockdown, 1 quit at the end and the last one is zipping. So, I should get 15 of 16! Lots of whites and browns with about 3 or 4 different shades of chipmunk. What did Drekki look like as a chick? I forgot....

... and they are the speediest chicks in the brooder...totally amazing! I named one Slime and I'm guessing it's a "he". He was the first one to pip and fourth to hatch. He looks way skinnier than all of the others but I am totally in love with that chick.
