I noticed on my black crested one at about 8 weeks the hackle feathers growing out a different color than the others ???
not sure if that is normal as these are the first young ones I am raising

I am kind of thinking that I got their genders crossed - male is a female, and female is a male. The one that I thought was a girl at first is certainly getting bigger quickly, including the comb. Here's a not-so-great picture of them:



The white is the one I thought at first was a male. When I got him, he had a bad problem with pasty bum that I cleaned up, and I've wondered if that problem set back his growth rate a little. Think that's even possible? Or am I dreaming, and this one is actually, maybe (possibly?!) the girl?

Also, The Sheriff, your video of mama and baby made me smile. Very, very cute how tolerant mom is.

Thanks Red3. I am happy to report that mama has her strength back and she is able to run all over the yard chasing the baby. The baby is no longer bored and it's having a ball.
