Hi all, Just wanted to comment on incubating, I'm been incubating eggs from my 5 Icelandic hens and have had decent hatches. The tiny chicks seem to have a lower survival rate than the larger ones but am getting some black and white, some crests and a variety of comb types. By the end of June I will have to decide which ones I am keeping and which ones will have to find new homes or eventually go to freezer camp. I hate to sell them at the auction as mixed breeds because of a poultry dealer that knows I have Icelandics. I want them to go to people who are interested in Icelandics and not just in promoting "Rare Endangered Chickens" for outrageous prices. I will not ship birds as I am concerned about undue amounts of stress on birds past dayolds. I live in east central Ohio (near Canton) and travel frequently to Geauga and Trumbull counties, and also to the Rogers Ohio flea market area. I am willing to meet someone within a reasonable distance to get birds to new homes. So if you are in the eastern half of Ohio, northern WV, or western PA and are interested let me know.
