Icelandic Chickens

They'll go fast Kelly and destroy your chance of winning with them! But they'll be cute!

Both of my black/buff have pipped and one is starting to zip. Nothing from my others yet.

Happy New Year!

I have 3 black barred split to buff pipped, 2 of them are actively zipping. The 3rd I'm a bit concerned about, it pipped yesterday afternoon, but no activity at all from it since. Nothing yet on the mille fleur and the buff barred split to black eggs.

Genetically they are from Iceland, yes, but these particular birds haven't ventured out of California.

Am I wrong about this? I thought Iceland was "nice" weather, and Greenland is "cold" weather. ??? Guess I could go google and check that out.

Nope, your right. It's always struck me as odd, that Iceland is really green and Greenland is really cold

Still colder than us here in the states though, right? I mean, it is farther North.

I thought I'd post this here Mary, so it doesn't get lost in the NY hatch thread. I have 2 black barred split to buff out now. The odd thing is, one is completely black and one is almost completely yellow feathered. I took a picture of the yellow one hatching showing the writing on top of the egg in case it's some anomaly. I wish I could upload it for you to look at, but I still can't upload photos.

Kelly, I have no idea what we should be seeing so I have no idea what is odd! I am keeping the splits in separate bators and will confer with Lynne after hatch. I know she has separate pens for all her breeding groups. She said she was getting some interesting color combinations from the splits.
