Icelandic Chickens

Can't believe I won't be doing them this next year....unless Drekki Jr. get's busy with all the Icelandic girls and doesn't crow.

Those are some nice looking roos and pullets.

Just out of curiosity did anyone hatch more females than males this year ? I was about 85% cockerels, ducks and turkeys I was 50/50.
I certainly did, both from the bator and broodies. Probably 2 to 1. My freezer is full and still more to go to the butcher in Oct and November. Still have all my Icelandic roos until next month, then I'll have to decide.

Our freezer is full also, have 9 ducks, 2 broad breasted turkeys, and 1 roo to process.

I had some groups with as many as 7 cockerels to 1 pullet!

Deb

That sounds like most of my chick hatches this year.

Welcome back, sorry about the health issues. I hope the trip was enjoyable.

The trip itself while long was enjoyable, over and through some of the most beautiful country in North America, from MI to AK and through to Montana and north through Alberta to British Columbia to the Yukon and to AK, incredible, everyone should see it at least once in their lifetime, I am thankful that I could.

The health issue settles on one hand in particular with arthritis, effectively at times barring gripping, which would make me a one handed musher, that cannot be, so came back, will keep two of the pups for companions, and some back packing hiking and winter weight pulls, and rehome the other sweetlings. They are family now so looking carefully for their new homes.

I will hold off til spring on more chickens, would like a half dozen Icelandics, and probably will get some Chanteclers, the Albertans. Again, just a few, dont need a LOT of eggs really just want to see them ranging about. And to develop a good strong flock.

Does anyone here have feathered legs on theirs?

I am slowly reading back posts, missed chat with you all.
