Icelandic Chickens

Hi Deb what colors do you have?

Their diversity is one of their great attractions for me. Plus the hardiness and free ranging ability. I am looking forward to getting a flock together.
Go back to post 16861, I put up some pictures. Arne is feather legged. All my girls are similar, except I have one without a crest and the other three are crested. My number three cockerel may get a reprieve. His comb is starting to grow on the other side and even out. His comb no longer looks lopped.

I also have a new chick coming along, I hatched an egg from Jim's Drekki pen. It's only a couple of weeks old, so I'm not even sure yet of what I have.

Another growing year is about gone by, and the Icelandics have more breeders,

how many hens have you all now at the end of your hatching/growing year?

I am really curious about the numbers now.

I have 3 hens and 2 roosters . 2 hens are laying

Nice small flocks, actually what I want, but 8-10 hens and a couple of roosters, I am a strong believer of multiple roosters to whatever size flocks.

Lukka is my poster girl hen, and Isi my mental image of the ideal Icelandic rooster, may their tribe increase.

I agree. I have a few olive egger , easter egger and ameraucana hens that run with them for the egg basket color.

Jake, I have 9 hens now and one rooster that I pray I can keep for a while. He is "Drekki Jr." and he is almost my "ideal" of an Icelandic roo.
Of the 9 hens, I have one brown with a white tail, one red breasted with a white tail, one gold breasted with a black tail, one birchen looking one, two blacks with crests, one black with golden hackles, one white hen and one golden one with black highlights and a beautiful crest. Wish I had pics to show, but I've been in the hospital now for two days. For those of you who pray, pray I can get the heck out of here.

so far it seems most are what I call small homestead flocks, which is where I think that the Icelandic Chicken excels.
