Icelandic Chickens

I think today is day 14 on my Icelandic eggs

Assuming they are okay.

By this time, the eggs should be mostly dark with light in the air sac and at the tip of the egg (for a bit more growing to do)

I really want to candle a couple again, but I'm afraid Jake will beat me, lol

And, I think my broody has been patient enough with me. I'm going to leave her alone until hatch time.

i peeked at a couple Icee eggs that were under my broody last night too. she is doing a great job because they are developing! i figure she will boot them out of the nest if they were bad. its just a waiting game now.

This is my broody's first time going broody, so I'm not sure how she'll do yet. Thus far, she's been pretty caring with her eggs and very protective. She's fine with me reaching into her carrier and petting her, but when I walked by with one of the roosters, she turned into a screeching raptor

And she took a few good pecks at the dog, when I first found her setting outside.

Hmmmm..........

Got home from work and checked on my broody. She had kicked out one of the eggs that was under her. The thing is, I think it's one of the eggs I hadn't candled within the last week. It was cool when I found it, so I checked it and found that most of it was dark. I could still see veins in it, too. It's probably dead, but I put it back under her to see if she kicks it out again. If for some slim reason it's alive, I'd like to give it another chance. Kinda doubtful about that at this point, but we'll see.

Well....I am totally bummed out. I don't like it but that's what happens when you free range. A hawk got my Icelandic pullet and one of the cockerels today. I've never had any issues with the hawks around here before now. The Icee's have been out with the other chickens for about a week now. So frustrating....

Oh, I'm so sorry!
