Icelandic Chickens

Hi Kimmie I sent you a couple of pm's.

I have had several days of too long trips but they are out of the way.

As quick as this latest spate of winter gets out of the way I can come over and pick them up. I need your phone number so can call when I am close, if you are where you are said to be it looks like about 2-3 hrs drive. Thats Lake George? You mentioned Harrison in one pm also. Anyhow possibly sunday if no more ice storms come.

Let me know. We need them in the gene pool.

Enjoy.

Hi Jake I really hate to give them up, they are awesome birds I just thought it would be better to concentrate on the Jerseys. They are so pretty. So did these birds come from you?

Lost the Flekka chick today. I am not going to try breeding my Icelandics again for a while. I will wait and see what I can get from this batch of eggs I have in the bator, but after they're done, it's going away for a long time. I can't ask for money for poor quality eggs like these, unless they're headed for the frying pan. And I'm done with chicks dying.

Kimmie, I'm glad you've found a good home for your Icees. That's wonderful.

Hi Kimmie Yes, they are from me, from Sheriff Marys stock. I have only seen the Jerseys in pics so will be glad to see yours. I like the Icelandics for their hardy homestead quality, and of course the beauty of them. But there are really chicken breeds now for every taste. The ones I am focusing on are the ones I believe are and will be superior homestead breeds. I think I may have seen some Jerseys about 25 years ago at a show in upstate NY.

Well, my Icelandic roo, "Jack" started crowing at 5:30 AM this morning... thank the Lord he was in the coop because with all the windows closed in the house, I could hear him and I'm certain that my neighbors had to have heard him. I was hoping to get a few babies out of him before rehoming him but I imagine he will be headed to the feed store as a "game" chicken. SHUCKS! At least Boston still has Drekki JR. and will be able to get some pretty babies out of him.

I have an 8 week old Icelandic chick that is a puzzlement to me. It has green legs, is black and white, and it has tufts and I think a beard. It was hatched right here from my stock. The pen that my flock is in is very secure no chance of another bird getting in there. And i do not have birds that have tufts or beards. Do Icelandic birds have those. I just notice them today, was admiring the feathering and legs and found them.
