Icelandic Chickens

I am wanting to get Icelandics. I want to work with a breed in need of conservation, that is a good layer, will go broody, and is pretty. The DH was hoping that I would get a variety of different birds for color. This breed has that wish covered too - such pretty variations!

I will post an update once I acquire them. :)

Good luck! I have found the breed to be very satisfying in many aspects. Colors, personality, laying, and intelligence - I love them. I have yet to have any go broody, but mine are still young, yet.

Where are you located?

I have another baby! That makes four that have hatched. This one's another chipmunk baby, but it has a RC, whereas the other three have SC's. There was another egg that had developed pretty far, then quit a couple of days ago - chipmunk as well. The hen crushed it today, sigh. I think there may still be one more live egg under her, but I will have to check tonight. Either way, I'm pretty excited. My flock size just got doubled

And, a picture of my chocolate chick that hatched a few weeks ago.

Myrth you and Mary are neighbors !!

In the same state !

Do you have a chicken house now?

Are you looking for chickens, chicks or eggs?

Incubating is fun, and watching the chicks hatch is even more fun.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

I have a total of five new Icelandic chicks! The last one hatched under my broody last night, so now she has two chicks. I've got one dark chipmunk, three medium chipmunks, and a blondie, all totaled. Hooray!
