Icelandic Chickens

I didn't intend for them to be so wild but it is what it is. They don't even come for treats like the rest of the flock. I have sparrows and swallows around here that are tamer that they are! At least my LGD keeps them safe whether they go into the coop at night or not. They are fun to watch from the window chasing down grasshoppers, so I do get to enjoy them. I'm hoping they get more used to me this winter when they depend on me for food.

Beautiful girls Mary !!

I agree, a good rooster is never a bad color, and they really are like a box of chocolates, you just dont know what you are going to get !

FWIW, I am looking at cameras, the one I am most interested in right now is a Nikon DSLR, 3700 I believe, pricey, for me but has what I want, a longer lens is another $350, so that would have to come later. This has a very fast focal speed, plus I do have a tripod so it will be possible, I just have to figure out again how to get them loaded. Miracles do happen. But dont anyone hold their breath .

I don't know.................we're all starting to wonder if you have chickens..................or maybe just feedstore chickens.

Have you ever seen the show Catfish?

C'mon Deb, give Jake a break! We know he has chickens or he couldn't have sent Kari eggs! Now a camera..........there is no proof that he has ever had one of those!!

Poor Jake, so abused!

But it would be quite a switch from no camera to super camera! That sounds like a professional camera.

It could be, I cant use the little point and shoot cameras, need bigger controls for the fingers. My previous one got swiped. Life goes on.

I found so far the best deal with amazon, the camera plus telephoto for $150 less then the other place.

I just got in from evening chores and guess what? I found three eggs

in the pullet pen!!
I looked at Grima earlier when giving corn treats and said to her "Your comb is looking awfully red! You're not laying already are you?" and then did the math in my head........five months old on Sept 12........too early right? I thought I'd better look just to make sure......and there were three pullet size eggs. Two are very similar and one is a bit different so maybe her hatchmate, Gjoska, has also started. I'll keep any eye out every day now. There are two nest boxes in that coop but I haven't checked them since I didn't think there was anything to look for (there is a golf ball and a white plastic egg in one of the two nests). I will put some fresh hay in there tomorrow morning since some of the pullets sleep in the nests. It is always exciting to find someone new is laying!
