Diva, yeah, no new puppies.......or old puppies here either.

Starting today, our day length is growing!

The flock was outside quite a bit yesterday since we had temps in the low 40s. There are at least two of the three June Elska raised pullets that are laying, I got two pullet eggs and one hen egg yesterday! That's the most in day for a while now. We are forecast for some snow on Christmas Eve day and then colder temps (lows in the low teens and highs in the low 20s) after that. I hope everyone has a great Christmas week!!

Pullets starting to lay!

I found a large stash of Icelandic eggs the other day. Then I found nothing the next day. Yesterday there was 5, so all the 2014 pullets laid an egg yesterday. I'm not certain what our weather is going to be like. Today was supposed to be a low of 36 and high of 46, but it was 18 when we got up this morning.

Does anyone know whether Icelandics can be tailless? I ordered eggs from 2 reputable breeders (david grote and Mack Hill Farm) this past spring. I am happy with my pullets but I have one that is tailless. She was the last chick to hatch, and instead of developing a tail, she had 1 feather as a tail. That feather has since fallen, making her tailless.

They are not tailless, no. However, that doesn't mean that yours doesn't have a deformity, causing it to be tailless. I just wouldn't breed it.

You mention last chick to hatch. Did you assist the hatch? Did she have shell stuck on the tail that possibly damaged the feather follicles there?
