Icelandic Chickens

Fake eggs,

. I've been leaving real eggs. Silly me. No one has been convinced to sit though. Love the Hvit and chick photo. Looking forward to more broody and chick photos. Is spring finally really here.

I recently met a nice man at my local farm and building supply, and he turned out to be a neighbor who used to breed Black Australorps, so I asked him to pick out six BA chicks from the store brooder for me. He told me he's now breeding Icelandics and invited me over to see them. I researched them online first and found them fascinating!

Since I'm a direct descendant of some historic Vikings, I must have some of these gorgeous Viking chickens!!! I really enjoyed visiting my neighbor and seeing his Icelandics. He will have some for sale in August, and of course he will make sure I'll take good care of them before he sells me any, but I really hope and pray everything works out so I can help preserve this amazing ancient breed.

Diva, Each year, for the Easter Hatchalong, I try to hatch something that is not an Icelandic. This year I got four eggs from someone I know that has silkies (if fact, she has one I hatched). She found a stash of eggs and gave me four. Unfortunately, two were old and one was clear. Here is Hvit with her singleton silkie.
Oh, that chick is precious!!! Okay, I just set up my nest box situation like yours, Mary. Hopefully that will encourage my girls! I will keep you posted. Thanks for the idea!!
