Icelandic Chickens

I am very excited, I will be getting a dozen Icelandic chicken eggs tomorrow. Any words of wisdom from the wise Icelandic sages here for tips or techniques for a successful hatch??

Ok I thought I should do an introduction. My name is Karen and will be getting 12 Icelandic eggs tomorrow. I am new to Icelandics, but not to chickens. We suffered a tragic black bear attack last fall and lost all of our chickens, except one. So I am starting anew with Icelandics and only Icelandics, last time I had a variety of breeds. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks, Karen

I have Icelandic eggs in the incubator. I was going to hatch 24 out for someone I know locally who bought the eggs and was just getting into the breed, then she decided to get her own incubator and give me a dozen to hatch, since I have experience, and keep a dozen back for her to try out for her first time hatching. The deal was that for incubating them, I can have as many chicks as I want, up to half :) So far things aren't going the best - it seems the seller washed the eggs before we got them, because we both keep getting blood rings and late quitters as if bacteria is getting in. She is down to 5 with some of those questionable, and I am down to eight. But, fingers crossed these ones make it. Lockdown is Tuesday and I'm excited to see what kind of variety we get!

My latest batch of eggs is doing fantastic. Of 24 originally set, I have 17 developing beautifully. Today is day 13 :) Come on, babies!

Pyxis, good luck to you on your hatch!
