3 icelandics out this morning, I have them in the tiny king suro bator (to keep them separate from the wheaten marans) so it's hard to tell if they have spots of other colors, but they are all blonds

Thanks, any idea how many, I would love up to three dozen if possible so I can get a ggod hen count maybe. Are ther any others here onlist that have different bloodlines or have they all originated from the sme person and bloodlines, I really am a Blue color freak and was wondering if any of you breed to a preferential color pattern in the Icelandics, Is this type of breeding acceptable to the proliferation code that we are all dedicated to??? I will be bringing a trio or more up to Homestead Farms in two weeks.

They will be working with me closely and are committed to keeping the stock pure, separated in housing and pasture and preserving the lines.

Keep up the great work Kathy. Mary and all of our other committed preservationists!

Breeding for a specific color pattern would, in my opinion, not be in the best interest of preserving them as they have been since the Vikings introduced them to Iceland. I am not even sure it would be possible since you have no idea if a hen will hatch out an egg the same color as her or the roo. In the very beginning for me, all my eggs came from Lukka with one or two from Henna. I got chicks of all colors and only once did I get one in blue that looked like Lukka. You could hatch and only keep the blue ones if that is your inclination, re-homing the others. Sigrid had quite a few blues and this is why I think I have a higher proportion of blues than other people. My Thanksgiving hatch has three hens that look as if they will be a pretty powder blue/grey when finished feathering in. I'll try to take a picture of them today.

p.s. Oops I just looked at pictures I took yesterday and you can see the girls I am talking about. They are the little ones closest to the wall. The blue hen in front is the one who looks very similiar to Lukka, my original blue girl. Lukka, of course is the one attached to Isi's side. In addition to the three powder blue/grey pullets you can see one blue and one steel grey and dark blue behind her. Well you can see the back half of her! I think if you raise Icelandics you will find yourself loving them all for their individuality.
