Icelandic Chickens

You are cross-breeding Icelandics?

Lisa, If you go to page one and read the very first post, The Warden (Mary), tells the story of how she got interested in Icelandics because of Stella, the Icelandic/EE cross that flew into her yard. So, no, she isn't cross-breeding.

And Stella also lays a green egg, so there's no possibility of her eggs being mixed up with the others.

If you want the olive egger eggs, just let me know - offer still stands.

Mahonri........He's getting more and more handsome! Love his crest! Pretty peacock too, if only they didn't make the most annoying sounds ever.

And no Guinea's for Mary. She needs Ducks!

No, No, No. Please read post #1 and you'll find out that Stella flew over my fence and joined us out of the blue. I thought she was pure Icelandic until she laid her first egg and it was green. Lyle surmises that she was probably a mix of Icelandic and EE. We love her as she istruly a unique character. The fact that she lays green eggs makes it possible for her to live with the Icelandics without messing with the gene pool. Her eggs are all for eating. There is no mistaking a Stella egg in an Icelandic nest box.

BTW Lisa, I just wanted to say how nice it is to see you checking in and posting. I cannot tell you how many hours I drooled over your photo pages until I got Icelandic's of my own. It was one of the ways I was able to verify that she indeed appeared to be an Icelandic.

Jake! I can't have flamingos. I am sure it's in the county code somewhere. If it isn't it should be.

But I would love to see a flamingo being chased by an emu. Now that's just good fun! I also don't need enabling. I am weak, weak, weak.

Over 5 hour power outage last night. OMG, the winds were horrific. It is a mud slick in my yard now. It was 80* yesterday. I was caught off guard. It came so quickly and was so fierce!

My 3 day old chicks in the (inside house) brooder were huddled and piling. I covered the brooders with blankets, and they all survived. However, I am very very tired!

I am toooooooo old for this! It seems to me that weather makes headline news all too often anymore. What's up with that?
