Ya know, I have been thinking about this. I, for one, will not be adding "new blood," to my Icelandic flock. I feel they have all the genetic diversity they need. PLUS, I KNOW they are pure Icelandic. There are others out there that are not. I would not want to hatch brown eggs claiming to be Icelandic. Mine all lay white eggs, and I think that is what pure Icelandics lay.

I had read that, but was wondering if there had been crossing here in the US, which I would really hate to see.
So it appears then that Marys chickens are about as authentic as anyone could hope for, and thats more then good enough for me, I am including Sigrids and Lyles' in that also.

I am fascinated about the DNA evidence showing they are so different from other breeds of chickens ! Thats awesome !

I am counting the hours now til a week from today, should have some Icelandic babies then !!!

This bunch of eggs sure beats that famous box of chocolates, any three eggs can have 3 different looking chicks ! How great is that !!

Yep, I do. It's more to let me see how many hens I hatched compared to roos. And to help me tell a couple of them apart since some look so similar now. I have a few friends that are interested in getting some chicks from me and I will have to decide who I won't miss too much. Don't worry tho, I know them well, they appreciate what they are getting and they will be the only chickens so no danger of cross-breeding.

Hi Kathy

You had said before that yours were from Mary so I just grouped you with hers, and hers are from Lyle and Sigrid,

I know that there are some others out there though that may have crosses in, those need to be identified and made known if anyone here does know of some crossings.

I do have personal preferences, but as Mary said, every hen has her home and purpose, I WILL have one hen colored like Lukka, and a Roo like Isi, but there will be other hens and other Roos too. They are all in this together. I am all for diversity when it comes to Icelandic Chickens.



Diversity is alright in many places, most especially in Icelandic Chickens.
