Icelandic Chickens

Good luck Jake! For what it's worth, I keep mine at 65% for lockdown. I do pull 1 plug though for more oxygen. When my incubator gets down around 55%, I find I get sticky chicks. And they are fast zippers, so watch out!

Thanks for the good words Ladies,

I stopped the humidity at 62%, and will see what that does for this first set.

I feel like an expectant father in the waiting room!

Not hardly like its the first time either, the Hovabator has had a LOT of use.

I value these a lot more.

Jake, I hatched my first ever chicks during Mahonri's Easter Hatch. The eggs were my own and I was so nervous that I would do something to lose them. Of the 9 Icelandics set, one was clear and pulled at lockdown (only candling I did). Of the 8 remaining, 7 hatched, one was developed fully but never pipped internally. I will be trying my first shipped eggs the third week of May and will know then just how you feel.........but I think I have a pretty good idea!! We will, of course, need lots of pictures!!!!

Anna, 11 month old broody Icelandic, is not budging from her nest of 10 eggs....she should be hatching by the weekend!!

Since everyone is cheering on Anna.......I thought I'd go out and get a picture for you.
Just so you can remember what she looks like, here is a pic I've posted before of the sweetie:

And here is the pic I just took of the "not so sweetie" broody:

Whoa.........she must have thought the camera was something trying to get her brood!! She hasn't reacted like that when I've checked her before.....might be something going on.........!!!
