Icelandic Chickens

Mary, sorry about your little OE

I finally named my little Icelandic cockeral. Sorry but I did not use and Icelandic name and I hope this does not offend anyone but I had to name him Lee, short for General Lee. My reasoning is because everytime he crows I halfway expect to hear someone yell "CHARGE!" It's just the way his crow sounds...da tata da!

Chickie Mama brought the juvies out and then went straight over to the "Ice House" and entered a hen box this morning.....hmmmm.....wonder if she'll be up to brooding some eggs later this week?

The other Mary....If that's all you have to do to get a broody, then come on over to my house. I've got a screechy, biting, puffed up, belly plucked clean girl that's been doing this for MONTHS now. I wish she'd just quit tormenting me and get it over with already.

Kelly, Maybe you're holding your mouth wrong..

...that's what my Dad used to tell us when he was catching tons of fish and we weren't catching anything!!

I have plenty of broodies............so many that eggs are starting to be in short supply here....so Mary's sending some to me to help me out!!

Asta has now gone broody and has been on her lone egg for 3 days, I'm going to move her and then decide if she will get a nice set of California Eggs!! Love for my Icelandics to be raised by broodies if I have a choice. Depending on how many Mary sent, maybe Asta and Chickie Mama can split them! I will still be putting some Marans and BWA eggs from Mahonri in the bator this week with some Lav Ams from Crystal Creek. The bator will be standing by in case it's needed. Less than a week now until broody SLW Peeper is due to hatch the 8 Icelandics I gave her!! She is a first time mother so I hope all goes well. She was raised last year by Chickie Mama so I have great hopes for her!

Seinna, The Other Mary

Just counted. Have 8 broodies.

Dozer (on 3 eggs)
Hissyfit (on 10? eggs)

Sassafrass- the only hen I WANT to hatch eggs from.
Daphne- sits in an empty box (my avatar)
Mystic- 0 eggs, but bites
Orange- newly broody, in full moult.
Bloomers- MFC, but sits on the ground.
Teapot- She's sneaky...she'll hide eggs in her wings. I've tossed her a good 10 feet out of the box (nicely) and she'll WALK AWAY while smuggling an egg.

Give me 5 minutes, I bet there will be more.

Mary I tracked them and they left Sacramento at 9 p.m. Monday night! Gosh, I would have thought they would be to you today. I guess us moving 30 miles up the road added a day to priority mail! Let me know if you you get them tomorrow.

Laree, why do you have incubators running with all those broodies????? Teapot reminds me of my crazy broody Blue Mama. She hid an egg under her chin once, if silkies have chins, and it fell out while I was carrying her around looking for eggs!

Brat. You just have to rub it in, eh?

Am I the only one broody-less? And I have ALL the broody breeds, well besides silkies, but they aren't really chickens anyway.
