What's next for crying out loud? I am on hold for hours all day trying to find someone to remove the hardware store from inside my emu. Then we find that two baby blackbirds have fallen out of a tree again. I think the trash truck scrapes the tree and the birds fall out. It has happened before. The Wildlife Rescue can't take them until tomorrow so they are in my baby chick brooder right now until the morning. (I know, disinfect!) Meanwhile I am feeding them water via a syringe and listening to them yell!
No luck in finding a vet to remove the screws from Stuart. Even our huge vet school doesn't treat emus. I guess we will have to go the Metamucil route for now. We are just going to give it to both of them because she probably has similar foreign objects in her. May we all survive the night.
Wow, you've quite the emergency animal hospital there Mary!! I hope the baby birds and you survive the night and that the Metamucil works on both of of the emus.
I wonder if any of my chickens or ducks have foreign objects in them....never really occured to me until you posted the x-ray.
Come on Mahonri......you live in Phoenix........107 is nothing......get out there and get some pics!!!
Mary are there any emu/ostrich farms around? Can they point you to a vet? Maybe the zoo? I don't know where they are located in the bird and this is thinking way outside the box and I would talk to a vet, but what about one of those tool magnets on the antenna things.
I have earned an "expert" badge for broody busting, I believe! Unbelievable, but there was an egg on the concrete floor in the broody busting pen, AND NO ONE EVEN SAT ON IT! ! !
No chicks in the house. Man, is it ever quiet here. When I hatch (in my basement studio), the chicks go into a rubbermaid tub for a few days. I have no newborns currently, but the brooders are clean and ready for the June 20th LAST hatch of the season! (Project birds being the exception, of course).
12 hour shifts, two days in a row.
It exhausted me. I am off for a few days now.
Flooding up home (Iowa) has begun. Our home there is on a hill and safe. However, the rest of the family there is not so fortunate.
Mary,
How is your little goat doing? Did I miss an update on him?
I feel so bad for you having to deal with your current situation. Metamucil, huh? Another off label treatment, huh? Anyway, I sure hope it works. Silly emu!
How are you gonna take care of those baby birds? Don't they have to be fed like every couple hours or something? I thought I read that somewhere, but not for certain.
OMGosh, Mary, you are gonna get no rest for awhile.
