You ladies are up too late...

but since you are up.. Kathy... as the great coon catcher of BYC... what's your secret? I have what must be a big ole granddaddy coon that is too dang smart.. He flips the trap over, digs under it, eats the bait and leaves and last night he picked up the tuna fish can from the far end of the trap, carried it outside and had a feast, all without setting the trap off.. I have been trying to catch this thing for weeks, ever since he got three of my birds.. So far he has enjoyed a bunch of chicken, 5 cans of tuna, egg and laughed at me the whole time.. (I have caught five feral cats and a big skunk so I know the trap works on stupid ones...)

Any suggestions? Tonight I set it with two cans with tuna in them... see if he can get them both out without setting it off... LOL On the bright side, since he is having so much fun down on the south side of the property messing with my trap, he hasn't been visiting the chicken coop on the other end...

Can't take that one due to extrapyramidal side effects.

(this was me but I kept backing up and doing it again!) Plus I take iron and can't take it if you take iron. What's a girl gonna do?

Re the coon, set a couple pan traps around the live trap, dirt sets, he will get more expensive if you dont, for one like him I'd sit up with a .22, get him used to a motion detector by the trap first.

It could be a fox doing this also, so I'd use a #4 trap. Do a regular dirt set around the live trap.

Kathy your EE'rs are beautiful birds !

Little challenges keep life interesting !

Really into the countdown now, hope/plan to leave here for Cusick, Wa on the morn of the 16th. Getting antsy to go but its going to be a fun trip, I WILL get some more pics posted of the chicken kids before I go and hopefully one of the 'Ark'. My son is going to ride out with me and fly back, he has a week off so we need to do it in that, I am thinking five days with the three stops need to make. It'll be a fun trip with him, he hasnt seen past Chicago. He is an avid backpacker and camper so he will see some great country for that. I hope to get some pics of us on the trip, he will be the tall lean one and I am the fuzzy faced old timer. With the Vietnam hat.

I took some video yesterday and thought I'd share. Warning, only one Icelandic related video. I will put it between the other two! Don't reply by quote please. We don't need duplicates of these!

First one is Stuart and Louis, aka Stuie and Louie, or Stu and Lou, depending on how fast I need to get their attention. They were very calm and quiet and you can see how big they have gotten. Louis is huge. He is not quite taller than me right now and I am 5' 7". He picks at my bangs when we talk!

The next video is a crowing contest between Pretty Boy and Isi. Pretty Boy is gorgeous but his crow is weak and high pitched. Little Man, the orange roo rarely crows but when he does it is a slightly less mature version of Isi's crow. Note how Isi needs to shake his tail feathers in preparation. Too funny.

The last one features Laverne and Shirley who were particularly happy yesterday morning. Shirley has the big black heart on her chest. Note how when they run down the hill they get excited and their back legs lock up.

I love Isi's crow preparations!!

I am getting some great variations showing up in the icelandics now that they are "fully feathered" I'll try and get some new pictures this weekend. Hope I end up with one like Isi..
