I agree with Taz............ GIVE HER THE 21 EGGS!

I must confess. I have a BCMarans that I could not break. 3 times I thought I broke that girl. NO, didn't work. I gave up. Yesterday I slipped eggs under her from the incubator. She hatched one. Next trip outside I slipped 4 chicks and removed the eggs. She is finally a happy mama.

Go ahead, Mary, give her the eggs!

I am hoping and praying that when I go down to the barn this morning she is off the nest. I don't need/want any more chicks. I have 21 Icelandics right now plus 20 chicks, ten of which are going to Farmer Fred. That puts me at 31 which is one over what I set as my limit. I know there will be some roos in there and I would like to settle in at no more than 25 over the winter.

I have five Icelandic eggs in the incubator due to hatch tomorrow and another nine due to hatch on Thursday. I am hoping for enough to ship a chick order with late hatchers from the first batch and early hatchers from the second batch. The leftovers will go to a lady in Sacramento. My none Isbar chicks will move outside to a grow-out coop soon, and the Icelandic chicks that remain will move down to the Icelandic coop as soon as they are big enough.

I moved Blind Lucy into the small coop because Bjorn was relentless in trying to mate her. She has been terrified and standing in a corner of the coop all day for days, afraid to come out. She has gotten very thin. I moved her into the little coop I had a Mom and babies in and kicked them out. She has her own little condo and a small fenced run. Once I divide the yard and coop and move the Isbars, she can go back with her layer buddies or, if she is doing well on her own, I may leave her there.

A boatload of new chicks right now will not be easy. So, I hope for an empty nest box this morning. Not being unkind, just practical. Just trying to keep the layer coop clean with all these Moms and babies is too much. And I use the term "clean" loosely.

Edited to add: She is off the nest and the five eggs are stone cold so she was off all night. I am so relieved. Now if she just stays off we'll be good.

I had the crazies here this morning too, giving Eprinex to 4 coops, over 35 birds, and got deeply scratched across the upper wrist by a LF rooster.
All in all, it went well, and boy am I glad they are done.
And 3 more coops tomorrow...then repeat in 2 weeks.

Good morning !!

From sunny Montana !

The visits are over and now time to make miles, hoping to be home in Cusick Wa by thursday latest, one stopover in Boise to drop off some Icelandics then on up to Cusick.

Its been a great and long trip, by the mileage I think I am just over the halfway mark, I am seeing our beautiful country once again, wish I had more time to stop and look but this is better then nothing.

No pics today, hope to get some in Boise, of the Icelandics that are staying there, maybe some goats too.

I'm gone , again, but will be back, and will have more pics, in Cusick if not sooner. I am going to have a 2 day unload there,and then a nice long unpack, about over the winter.
