OMG, those juveniles are gonna be the death of me yet! EIGHT of them were out! Good grief........
Well, they are safely locked up now. Tomorrow I am gonna sit outside their pen and watch them until I figure out how the heck they got out.
My older birds were roosting early. They are always the first to bed at night.
Tyler put this high roost in yesterday. I told him he needs to take it down and turn the 2x4 to the wide side up.
Picasso (Tyler named him this, as he is as beautiful as a piece of art) took a whole roost for himself.

OMG! That IS IT ! ! ! Why didn't I think of that? Some of my first chickens ever were Polish and they were crazy as they come. IT IS the crests! My original Icelandics were never crazy like these kids. In their defense, they have always been penned until a couple weeks ago. They have been sooooooooo enjoying ranging all over the place. Then, I had to move them to a new larger home and keep them penned for a week. Well, I have been trying to keep them penned for a week. If they would just stay put and realize they have a new home, I would let them all out again. I just need to know they will return home to the correct pen.
A good lesson ...... Be careful what you wish for.
Chickielady reports that 3 of 4 Icelandics she hatched my birds have developed wry tail. As I understand it, wry tail is the result of two birds with the recessive gene mating. I have had the same roo (Isi) and hens for a long time, hatched out hundreds of chicks, and never seen it. My thinking is it would have to be one of the new roos (Pretty Boy, gone) or Little Man (still here) and one of the hens. I think it would be easier to rule out which roo it is than which hen by getting rid of Little man, waiting to sell eggs or chicks until Spring when my new roos grow out, and see what happens. Any thoughts? Maybe Chickelady could post the pics here.
Also, I have hatching egg orders and two orders for day old chicks which I wouldn't feel right about filling. Is there anyone else who has the ability/desire to fill those orders at this point?
I would be glad to help fill orders if I could. However, my girls have started to molt and I am not getting enough eggs to hatch. Also, I just moved them (added stress). I just won't have anything available for a while. I also have 3 orders to fill that will have to wait.
