Pretty Boy humped anything with feathers so I have no way of knowing if he fertilized those eggs. I free range my flock and do not keep them in pens for breeding purposes. And they don't all come "from me." You can get eggs from Lyle Behl, Marty Favre, and a couple of other people. However, I have people who have gotten birds from that line and they report feathering issues showing up. That is why they are looking for eggs/birds from me.
I think what we need to realize is that these birds, all of them here in the US, came from a very small population of imported eggs. The issues that we are seeing, fray, wry tail, etc can occur in any breed. These Icelandics come from a small genetic pool and these things are going to pop up. As for me, I am going to try to eliminate the male throwing the gene vs rehoming all my hens. Then I will be diligent in finding replacement roos who do not carry the gene. To me that is the only way to continue preserving the breed. Open to opinions.
OK, I will watch, & keep you posted, and we will get through this.
I agree with all you said.
