Icelandic Chickens

Well, my Flekka baby is not doing so hot. It didn't want to open its eyes at all this morning. I'm going to give it just a little drop of vitamins when I get home from work. It's not eating or drinking water yet. And, when I had the humidity up in the bator to help it hatch out okay (didn't want the blood vessels to dry out before it could absorb the blood) I think I may have inadvertently killed the eggs I have from coldupnorth. I officially fail. Found three quitters this morning, one that looks like it may still be developing, and the rest were clear/undecided. Whether any of these eggs hatch or they all quit, I think I am going to just put away that stupid incubator for a while. I seem to have the death touch.

I'm really sorry that you are having such a tough time. I hope it gets better for you as Spring goes on.

Thank you. Good news, though. I candled ALL of the eggs when I got home tonight, not just most of them. Here's what I found:

1 toast
1 developing
4 clears
2 loose air cells
8 can't tell

So, not only am I horrible at incubating, but apparently I can't tell what's what, either. This morning I was certain that I had three quitters. Tonight, I can only see one for sure. I'm going to toss the clears after a few more days, but I'm keeping the ???'s for a while longer.

Okay, good news, anyone? I hate feeling like the rain cloud of the forum! I checked on the Flekka baby tonight after work, and she is opening her eyes more. I gave her a tiny bit of vitamins and some drops of water. She's still hanging in there.

I just got a incubator today. I am sorry you are having a tough time with hatching.

Empty nesters waiting for chicks to hatch...look at the beautiful brooder my fiancé is making for me. The cedar smells wonderful. A great distraction from candeling the eggs and checking the incubator thermometer.
