Icelandic Chickens

Jake,

When I first got the Icelandics, I made the commitment to breed them and keep them pure.

Now that I can no longer have a rooster, I can't keep that commitment so, I found two different folks who would do the same. Boston Bryce in Heber and Bryce Cluff in the East Valley. They've both committed to keep the breed going and keep them pure.

So for now, I'll just concentrate on layers and other eye candy.

Hi Dar

You can always incubate for the Bryces , and keep theirs going that way while adding to your own eye candy.

I am going to have a full plate with my four Homestead Breeds but its something that I need to do, a number of other breeds very worthy of preservation too, the RC Rhode Island Red that I grew up with but now is scarce to rare. Others, I could easily add another four breeds, the Buckeye, etc but want to do justice to any that I add.

So, enjoy the eye candy, you got two other breeders going, thats worth a bow !

So what we're saying is that I need to "accidentally" mingle my Icee girls with the other roo for a day, so that I can't guarantee their offspring are purebred, but Mahonri can still have his eye candy. Is that right?

I almost got into breeding some Houdans a month or so ago. I was told that the only ones you see in the US are hatchery stock, no breeder stock. It really tempted me to get some chicks and work with them to strengthen the breed, since they seem kind of fragile. I am perfectly happy just to work on the Icelandics for now, though. Perhaps at some point down the road, I can get into preserving other breeds, as well. Like Java's.

I have never in any way on any thread since I have begun posting on BYC suggested or in any way encouraged cross breeding of chickens. Of ANY breeds.

If you can find a post of mine on BYC where I said it was okay I will apologize for this post but you are deliberately cutesy twisting my words.

I was suggesting that Dar could get eggs to hatch from Bryce, purebred Icelandic eggs and hatch them out. Dar doesnot have a rooster as he has said for over a year, zoning restrictions. So if he does have a mixed flock the eggs are pure UNFERTILIZED eggs ! So if he is to incubate eggs he has to get them from a flock with a rooster ! DUH !!!

You can do whatever you want to do. But DONT try to twist others comments here to make it look like its alright to crossbreed Icelandics or any other breed of chickens.

Do whatever you choose to do. Dont make it look like I okayed it. You do.
