welcome to the thread, lots of Icelandics to be found here.

Do you have an incubator? If so lots of eggs to be had, I would be glad to send you a dozen as would others, and chicks can be bought too.

I used to live north of Bucks Cnty in NYS, went to a number of archery rondys at Denton Hill Ski Resort a few years back. A truly beautiful part of the country.

Re the colors of chicks, most of my chicks have started out from two basic color patterns, chipmunk or white.

The whites would develop into the pyle/spash of the Isis's, or almost white with a dark feather or three, the chipmunks into dark breasted duckwings or dark wheatens. Sometimes blues. I have also had light wheatens from the white chicks. But those are the two most common color patterns which develop into all of the wide variations that we have in colors. "You never know what you are going to get".

This coming Tuesday is the 'first grand opening' of my Icelandc chicks hatching, I hope, I have several in with the Delawares, and will have more in two weeks with the Iowa Blues.

These first are by my Isi, a son of Mary O'Brians Isi, and in a few weeks will be hatching chicks by his Black Breasted Duckwing son Bjorn. He is a true Black Breasted, very dark breast. I have a brother of his a Black Breasted Gold Wing that I am taking to ChickenStock in Lansing on June 22nd. I have two sons of Isi I am keeping, one dark and one a splash pyle like his sire. I named him Magnus as he is the biggest of the Icelandic Roosters that I am keeping. I plan to have chicks from all 3 developing this year.

Life goes on, and its better with Icelandic Chickens !

No Icelandic eggs for me for a few weeks (well, there could be if I was willing to make the effort). Four girls broke out and decided to move to the pen next door with the silver campine roo (he must have been sweet talking them through the wire). We need to figure out how they broke through and move them home. Three are young pullets and weren't laying yet anyway, one was a hen. Now if I were to house her separately for a few weeks, I could still collect eggs from that pen. But since I haven't hatched any Icelandic for awhile, I think we'll just put them in the eating eggs for a few weeks.

True, they are Icelandics after all.

We absolutely could NOT figure out how they got through, there were five girls over there. Four pullets and one experienced woman of the world.

So far this spring I have had four Icelandic hens/pullets hatch and raise/are raising chicks and two more that are sitting tight on eggs. I think one of the German New Hampshires is trying to get in on the act now. Today was day two in the nest box....maybe she'll get some eggs..........
