Icelandic Chickens

Deb - WOW! That boy is quite a looker!

I had my first escapee on Saturday. I opened the run to go in and say hello, and our black rooster ran out. He was so fast, I couldn't believe it. Anyway, the second he realized he was on the other side of the run, he freaked out and tried to sneak his way in by going under the coop. My young neighbor was over (7yrs old), and before I could react, she had picked him up and put him back inside. Too funny!

Deb you have a gorgeous black breasted gold duckwing !!

My Icelandic chicks are developing beautifully, the oldest a week old, two and teaching some turkey poults how life is lived. More coming, I will be hatching all month, and more in July from Magnus the big splash pyle Isi look alike.

And hoping for some of those Idaho crested and featherlegged ones !

Life is good and better with Icelandic Chickens

He's about six months old. I got my two original roos from Mary O'Brien. One is feather legged and one is an Isi look alike, so one of them is his father. I've gotten quite a few feather legged daughter's, which I like, but now I'm going to change out the lead position for this boy. He is SC, (and twisted because of the crest), but all my girls are RC.

I'm anxious to see what this boy will produce.

You will get both, but heavily towards the RC, all of mine , right now, are SC, and I want RC, in all, its a cold weather hardiness factor here. I also want the feather legged on all, again, just hoping more feathers means better cold hardiness. If I was down there with Dar I would want all SC just for heat dissipation. I dont know what you will get on the crests but breedding crests to crests you should be alright.

Its too early to tell on my chicks what they have. Just like Forest gump !

Yes, I only have one non-crested hen, about a third with leg feathering, the standard shades of brown, black with gray penciling, birchen, blue...................so many choices of what to see!
