Icelandic Chickens

Good Morning Everyone! It was a beautiful day here yesterday and I got some coop cleaning done and the chicken yard mowed. The mowing was more for the leaves than the grass.

The hickory nuts are everywhere....the squirrels must be in heaven....but it is like walking across marbles for me.........

Jake, His name, Gosi, is pronounced "go-see". I was worried that since he was not "with a buddy" he might be an outcast in the group. I'm glad he is part of your flock.....that way I'll get to see what his adult plumage looks like.

Looks like out of the 7 Falki x Fjola chicks, only 2 are rose combed. Jake, I hope you get a better ratio out of yours.

I got some pictures and will post them after I switch over to Chrome.

Cute chick pictures! Looks like a healthy new crop of Icee's, there

My broody weaned off her chicks today, which means that all of my girls are done for the year........I think. It also means that I get more hands-on time with the three chicks! Yay! They're ten weeks old now, and they have nowhere near the color in their faces that my chocolate baby did - Kelly, if your guess was right, I don't know why you don't call yourself a sexing expert. I'm really starting to think that all three of these are girls, after all. How fine would that be? Three pullets and a cockeral from coldupnorth. And they are getting pretty, too! Looks like at least one mottled, one possible spangled, and the white baby. I'll try to get updated pictures soon - because you haven't seen enough of my babies, by now

I so need to get some pictures of my grow out Icelandics and my newest babies that just hatched yesterday. Hraun (Eldur's son) is daddy to the 6 of 7 eggs that I set and hatched. The last egg quit within during lockdown. I'm so excited that I set only 7 of their eggs and ended up with 6 chicks. Hope to get pictures tomorrow, but we've been busy trying to build a large lean-to onto a shed to use as a barn for most of my chickens. Have you ever tried to build with your husband? It can get a little stressful at times

DH and I built the barn and a year later the majority of our house ourselves (contracted out the concrete foundation with plumbing, the dry wall and final electrical box connections). I wouldn't want to do it again.........

Wow, even more pictures! Yay!

DH is very mathematical but hasn't built much, so he likes to overthink every nail or screw. The end product will be so worth it and we will still like each other when it is done.

All are gorgeous but Heidi is like a classic Masters painting.

Which she is.

I was pronouncing it way wrong, thanks, I was doing it all in one rather then splitting. Glad I asked. He is doing fine, Grimma and buddy are rough on him but he will grow and get his own back, right now he gets quiet hugging time with me.First rooster I have ever had who would jump into my hands/arms, I'd better be ready when I open the pen door. I know its security now but will pay off later.

I am hoping for more RCs, but will go with what I have, Gose will be a big help on that. A big one.

Here are Hraun's babies (Eldur's son). I haven't gotten pictures of Hraun's girls yet, but the babies are cute. They were hatched from pullet eggs, so I am guessing either just one or two of the girls had started laying when I collected these 7 eggs. I got 3 buff, 2 broken chipmunk and 1 chipmunk. Guessing the buffs are from one of my white girls since there are two in there. My whites usually hatch out yellow, but I have had a least one buff before hatch. Not sure how they will look, since that one didn't make it to maturity.

Here is daddy Hraun

Still need to get pictures of my grow outs, but the day isn't nice enough to go out for a photo shoot.
