The more I've read about this landrace breed over the past 1+ year, the more I've fallen in love with them. I'm looking to start my flock (all hens for now) at the latest next year (trying for this year) and want to get my chickens in a row, so to speak.... Which brings me to my question:

I'm located very near Portland, OR (I live in Vancouver, WA, just 10 minutes away). Can anyone tell me if there is anyone raising pure, healthy Icelandic chickens in my area that I could get some from? I would love to meet you and your chickens if so. Please message me or respond. It looks like if not, my only recourse may be Sand Hill Preservation Center and they are sold out till June! They also do not respond to my e-mail, and worst of all they are several states away so my main fear is that there may be several chick losses making it my way if forced to order from them since they are in Iowa. If so, so be it though. Thanks in advance for your help! These chickens have captured my attention with their hardiness and foraging capabilities/temperament/health.

We're in Kitsap County, a couple of hours from Vancouver, WA. We have first and second generation imports.

If they are from augbenchum on ebay - it looks like who I got my starter flock from (same town and pictures from his website).  He is very knowledgeable and does a great job with his flock.  I didn't know that he was offering them on ebay, but looks like he hasn't been for long.

I have eggs from augbenchum (eBay) shipping on Monday. I will have birds from all the imports that I know of at that point. He seems to be doing good things with them. I was encouraged that he has raised hundreds without any feathering issues. I am looking forward to hatching Icelandics and improving my flocks. Isi and Lukka are still going strong but Lukka hasn't been broody in months. Perhaps she has retired.

Nice to see Icelandic enthusiasts keeping the thread alive. I am just now feeling comfortable to begin posting again. ;:/. I changed the name of my place from the Buck 'n Run Ranch to the Egg Farm. It just suits this new place better. Since it is an old farm. Nice to be back.

Hi there! Thanks for your response. I took a look at your website; delighted to see that you are also raising Swedish Flowers, I found out about them before the Icelandics and think they're neat too. Has anyone on here bought chicks from you guys before? (Probably a silly question.) It would be great to get some feedback from people that have, and to hear about what your breeding goals are.

I tried to find that on the site but didn't see anything. Thanks!

When it comes to what I want, that's extremely healthy birds, not necessarily show-quality where health can take a back seat to isolating certain physical characteristics (why I'm looking at a landrace(s) breed of chickens, as you can see). Granted, I like a pretty bird (who doesn't?

), but it's more important to me that they be vibrantly healthy/hardy than lookers.
