Icelandic Chickens

Any one feel like making a list of all these awesome Icelandic names and their meanings?
Andy,

Here is a link to a website for Icelandic sheepdogs. It will open to the female names but there is a tab for male names and also some Viking names on the left. I use it because if you click on a name, it will pronounce it so you can know the proper annunciation for the name. It also gives the meaning of the name.
Good to see you back!

Yay for broodies! Do you know what kind of eggs they are sitting on? Will you be putting any of your hatchalong eggs under them?

I still have three but Elska sounds like she is thinking about it. I pulled 10 eggs from the incubator, two non-starters and the rest quitters. My D H was in charge of the eggs when I went to Kentucky and I tried to make it simple and let him tilt the LG incubator instead of turning the eggs. The temps would vary greatly depending on which side was elevated and which was down. I hope the broodies can finish them without any problems. Anna has 10, Gaela has 8 and Gola has 8.

Well, I received more eggs. So, I've decided to go ahead and hatch the Easter Hatch A Long eggs in the incubator. The latest eggs will end up under broodies. Right now the broodies have barny eggs.

Barny as in Barnevelders or as in Barn Yard?

We had a solid white covering of snow on Monday and Monday night. By the time I got home yesterday around 5:15 pm, this is all that was left!

Just a bit on the north sides or shaded areas of trees.....

I took some pictures of the chickens.......since I had the camera out.....

Here are the pullet and hens I picked-up from BYCer KYTinpusher wishing they weren't "trapped" in the egg mobile...

The crested cream one in the front is the one from Laurie (coldupnorth)....the two silvers (one crested, one not) are from BYCer MrHeinz77 (Jim), whose originals came from me two years ago.

The third one from Jim is not crested and is light colored with a pale salmon/chocolate breast. I'll have to get better pictures of them all once they are "out of jail"!

...........and one of Elska and Glima.......

I usually see the Barnevelder nickname as Barnie, so I figured yours were Barny(ard) but thought I'd ask in case Kelly sent you eggs.

I will be one of "those Barnevelder folks" when I receive the eggs I won in the Easter Hatchalong Friday Fun Night! They will be shipped April 28.....just in time for Elska to be broody....I hope!

That's wonderful. Maybe someday I'll have those too. This year I'm just going to concentrate on building the Icelandic Flock, and I have way too many Quail eggs on the way. I might be a barny, as in, my wife making me sleep in the barn.

My DH already thinks I'm a barny since I spent more time out there than in the house whenever the weather permits. This afternoon the wind is blowing out of south at about 20 mph.....I think I'll stay in and do some housework........or maybe I'll just go sit with the flock in the coop out of wind and listen for the chicks!
