Icelandic Chickens

From that view it doesn't look vaulted, just like she had a huge pom pom on her head.  Of course I've never seen a chick with such a prominent crest at that age, but the skull doesn't look vaulted.

I wish Mahonri was still here. I remember that his hen Phyllis had a huge head poof as an adult. I'd like to see any pictures he had of her as a chick.

Also agree, that doesn't look vaulted.

I didn't think so, but everyone seemed to, so I'm going nuts thinking, well, what do I know?! Lol
So no vault, no 5 toes, no black skin, no vulture beak, eggs came from well-respected breeder, only black chick in the whole hatch, AND I watched that dag gone egg like a hawk since it took two days to hatch & I thought it might be the only Icie to hatch...
Whew! Thanks to all for your input, we'll still wait and see what she looks like after grow out. Im so intrigued by preservation of this breed and didn't want to start off wonky.

*edit changed "crest" to "vault", has crest, no vault lol

One of my Icelandic hens is gone this morning :( I looked everywhere she could have hidden in the pen and found nothing. I've had several hens disappear in the last few months, but this is my first Icelandic that has gone missing. It was Flekka, for anyone who knows which hen I mean. I don't have a picture of her on my phone, sorry.

I'm just sick over it. No feathers or blood anywhere out there, so either a hawk got her or she flew the coop. I hope she comes back. I just cannot express how sad I am that she's gone.

How awful RedIII, I hope she just flew the coop and returns safely.
Maybe she has a secret nest that she is hiding. Hope she shows up

Well, I found out what happened to her. I guess when DH came home from work yesterday, he found her dead from the heat in the pen and moved her body so I wouldn't be upset. I am really wondering if I shouldn't just have a hot weather breed of chicken. This heat has been terrible this year and I feel horrible now. They have water all day and I thought they had enough shade.
