Other Mary, what do you call the kind of comb Forsaela has? I only know 2 kinds, the regular one (straight up) and the walnut (

) comb which I hate with a passion. It always makes me think of Arnold in "Kindergarten cop where a kid asks him about some growth and he answers "It is NOT a tumor!!"

Because Icelandics have never been bred to have specific types of colors or combs, it is sometimes hard to put an exact label on them. I am attaching a link to an article by American Poultry Association President Dave Anderson that appeared in Backyard Poultry magazine that talks about the comb. The pictures at the bottom are from the Standard of Perfection and show the "ideal" for each type of comb. I think Forsaela's comb would be a cushion comb..

Summer is still to hot, I "keep" better at lower temps. Anything above 70 is hot. We've had several storms miss us, I'm thinking we still have time for a late drought. Usually we get a drought about late June or July and the grass doesn't need mowing - hurray!! Grass is really looking stressed.

Yesterday it was 90 here, which felt so refreshing. Much better than 107-ish. My birds were thankful as well. It's nice and cool here this morning.

I was enjoying watching the flock yesterday. It is very interesting to watch how they interact with one another.

Those weanlings are beautiful! I love that pied look on their breast/bellies.

My Leghorn mix is definitely a boy. His comb is huge and bright red, and he has quite the strut. I wonder how long until he crows...... Still holding out hope that the three Icelandics are girls, though. I'm almost dead certain that two of them are.
