Icelandic Chickens

Thanks all, I appreciate the cheerleading. Everyone is so nice here!

I woke up to 5 chicks, I got a blue one I think, it's the same grey/yellow that mlmddh has - YAY!!! One is yellow and the other 3 are chipmunk colored. There are a couple more working to get out now. I don't think any are crested, still hopeful about that though!

LOL, my daughter the "chicken whistler" - Love it!!! I'll tell her that when she gets home from school. Talk about one excited kid this morning, she couldn't hardly sit and eat her breakfast.

I'll get pics when they fluff up. They are so tiny and cute!

Congratulations!

Amy looks like you don't have any Icelandic sheepdogs? Are you slacking? Maybe Mimddh still has a puppy or two.
LOL I do have one as mlmddh noted, it's just the one Icelandic animal I don't breed ;). Kobbi is by far the best dog I have ever owned. Maybe someday I'll learn about dog breeding also, but I'll leave that to the knowledgeable ones for now. Horses, sheep and chickens have me busy enough at the moment!

Mary, I am so, so sorry to hear about Elska! Poor dear. Hugs go out to you. And when did we lose Lukka, too?! :(

Kaldakur, congrats on the babies! Hooray!

I almost lost one of my roos the other day. This boy has it in for deadly circumstances or something. He almost died from pasty bum as a chick, he's been beat up badly by another rooster and had to be nursed, I've had to pull him out from between a fence and two angry turkeys, and now I can add rescuing him from a duck pond to the list. He fell in and was just floating there with his comb going purple. We grabbed him and toweled him off, then held him in front of a construction lamp for a while so he would warm up. Sheez. He makes some beautiful babies, but I'm beginning to wonder if I should retire him as a breeder.

REDIII either your rooster is the luckiest bird on earth or just plain suicidal. I hope his progeny aren't running around "flirting" with death. Maybe he needs some counseling

I think it was about a 7-10 days re: Lukka Mary mentioned it on Stella's Social Club. She found her dead sitting on 3 eggs. She was a devoted broody to the very end.

Sounds like a rooster with 9 lives to me! My calculations say he has 5 left :D
