Icelandic Chickens

Diva, love the names!!! My pugs name is Zippy! Lol! Pippy chick in the coolerbator hatched and looks good. Have a couple other pips in there as well. But- bad news. I got up this morning to the Incuview incubator being OFF. Day 21. We had bad storms last night, so I attributed the lack of power to a power surge or something. Completely cold eggs. I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Nothing. Opened up the lid and pushed on the connection between the cord and the incubator and it came back on. Was upset, but what could be done??? Hoping for the best. Then I ran some errands and came back to check on the eggs and it was OFF AGAIN!!! I pushed on the power supply cord once again and it turned back on, but I had to open the incubator with a couple of PIPPED eggs! One of the chicks has its beak out even, but seems really weak since the temperature was only 85 degrees when the power came on again. What the h$&@?!?!? I am furious and scared my eggs are not going to make it...

Oh that really stinks... crossing fingers that everything goes OK. I'd be totally frustrated to have that happen at the end too. Good luck!!!

Hoping they will be OK.

Thanks, everyone. Not sure how it will turn out- those eggs still haven't made progress, but I'm hoping... Happ the broody (DH calls her Toad because he says that's what she looks like all spread out over the eggs) is doing great! I just checked her and she looks to have hatched 5/8 eggs so far. My coolerbator has 3 of 5 hatched. I put all of the Sigrid eggs in one incubator (the "good" one) because I wanted to keep the birds separate so I could band them so I would know who was who. Now I kind of wish I had just split up the eggs... Oh well... I guess I can perhaps get more from Mr. Behl if things don't work out, but I HATE losing eggs so close to hatch. Just makes me sick... Fingers crossed they will be late hatchers since they had no heat last night.

Also- I am pretty shocked, but one of the Behl chicks under Happ has a vaulted skull. I have seen this online and thought, "Psh! Those aren't pure!" Guess these babies are showing me!!! I'll post some pics later!

Time for a little update on my 3-4 week old staggered hatch. Here are the kids.

Reminds me of a punk rock bar circa 1980. God I'm old...lol

I have at least one rooster. He is the only one with a darker red comb and waddle. Keep your fingers crossed, but I have always been lucky that way.

Pretty sure I have a Blue. Body is blue, head will be darker.
