Here are two of the little darlin's.
There is one more out under the mama but still wet.

I think I have 1 pipping and 2 duds.

Took the chicks and put them in brooder with MFC's that hatched today in the bator.

Treated them with 200 strength terramycin
Everyone else in the barn has 400 strength terramycin

Thanks Mary! I am going to go down in a few minutes and snatch the other one from her. I feel so bad taking her babies but I cant have them getting sick with whatever cooties are in the barn now.

I have some more eggs I could give her to hatch but I am usually against back-to-back brooding so I dont know. She has maintained her body weight pretty well so maybe...

We have named the darker chick Fyrri (1st) and the lighter one Feguro (beauty). Trying to keep gender neutral names. lol

NAF... We have the one that died 3 days ago, the one that is snotty and sneezy (both were in the same pen) and I swear I heard a sneeze in another pen while I was down there chick-snatching.

So, I am totally freakin' out. Everyone is on Terramycin, even my free rangers. Figured better safe than sorry.

The chicks... Icelandics and MFC's are in a separate brooder on the other end of the barn and everyone has directions to feed and water them BEFORE touching any other birds and then NOT touch them again til a hand washing.

I have no idea what this could be, other than a nasty upper respiratory thing. No one has been here, we havent been to any other chicken owning homes. No new birds. Just crazy!

Keep your fingers crossed that the Terramycin does the job.

Mary, would you say that the Icelandics lay a small/medium or large egg? Someone asked me and I said medium to large based on the eggs these guys came from.

Also, would you say that they are fair/good or excellent layers as far as quanitity for folks looking for egg layers?

I received two letters from Johanna in Iceland today. They are in response to the donations sent to the protective Society for the Icelandic Chickens. I whited out Mary and Kim's last names for privacy.

LOL at too precious. Thats what I told the person who asked.

But someday when we have populated the States with them, we may want to.

I hope my 3 little chicks are all pullets so that they can keep Buri and Jokul busy!

I pulled the other 3 from under mama and 2 were definitely clears and one looks like it quit at about a week. 50% hatch on shipped eggs? WOW!
I am super excited to have such a great start on a flock. Woot.

Okay...I am like a new Mommy showing off her 1st born so ya'll are gonna have to suffer through more pictures...

Here is our 3rd and final chick, who is nameless at the moment.
