Icelandic Chickens

HA .... not a chance! These girls, "rule the roost!"

I can hardly wait for them to start laying. The boys (penned beside them) are quite anxious for them to mature, as well.

Oh no! I think my Icelandics got on my computer and saw Kathy's post! This was their first night in the new coop. Good grief. They are going to poop on everyone else.

They are saying: Neener neener, you can't catch me.

I guess I'll have Icelandics in my rafters too. That is when the darn thing gets done. Glad you are getting everything settled Mary!

And OMG! Broody poop is the most nasty thing I have ever smelled.

Did I miss something? You have a broody? I have had three broodies cooped up 24/7 in tiny spaces for 2 weeks straight. You can't get near those coops for the smell. Today the guy building our barn moved the silkie (broody) coop up to the new chicken yard in the back of his truck. It had moms and babies in it at the time! He is probably at the dealership trading in his truck right now!

Here's the yard with temporary electric poultry netting. There's a mom and baby in the top of the silkie coop and a mom and 2 babies in the bottom. There's a mom and a baby in the small hospital coop too! At least everyone is up near the house now. The new fence gets started tomorrow! I am also painting the 2 small coops the same color as my new coop. It is the color of the bottom part of my house. I painted the inside Early Morning Sun. Wonder if my roos will start crowing even earlier in the mornings? The yard looks bad now but it is just the beginning. That's a fake rock with a hole cut out for a hawk hideout. I bought three of them. I hope to get some trees planted soon so they'll be well established next Spring.

Where are the umbrellas and deck accessories for the spoiled rotten poultry you have? I imagined them lounging around with a glass of tea, under a LARGE umbrella, to prevent sunburn and heatstroke.

Yes, I have a broody. It's one of the pure Ameraucana girls. The eggs are on day 5 today.

You can stagger t-posts like I did in my orchard. It blocks the hawks flight path and works really well at keeping the hawks out. If you don't remember it from when you were here, let me know and I'll send you the picture.

Would someone please explain the term "helicopter parenting" to Lukka? This baby is nine weeks old and cannot get one foot from her! This was their first night on the roost.
