Icelandic Chickens

Well Laree in about 6 months I hope to have hatching eggs for you. I still have 13 in the bator that were developing so I'm praying I get at least 8. Then I'll save the prettiest roo.

So where are all of the Icelandics in the US? CA, MO, soon in AZ?

Kathy, as long as the neighbors dogs can't get in there, I'm not going to worry. Coyotes are fast but I imagine those Icelandics will be agile.

I had a hawk attack my free ranging EE roo today. My wife and son watched the attack and said he gave a valiant fight and the small hawk eventually gave up. Had it been the Harper's hawk I saw a few weeks ago, I'm afraid he wouldn't have made it... he was HUGE.

I hatched the first Icelandic chick with feathered shanks!

Am I sooooo lucky, or what?

I got to hatch the first black Icelandic, and now I got this!

I will say, though ... the egg came from her. See here, Isi has slight feathering on his legs, yet none of his chicks have had feathering yet ....

Ok, I am about to burst your bubble Kathy. I went back through all my pictures and found that one of the blue roos I hatched and shipped last year had feathered legs:

And more recently the two blondies with the dots on their butts have lightly feathered legs!

So...........yours is fourth!

Well, then ...... I guess it was good that I didn't buy that lottery ticket.

4th or not .... I don't care ..... because the feathering on MY baby's legs is much BETTER than THAT! You just wait and see!

That must be my Ari! He doesn't have "feathers" but his legs look like those in the pic. I noticed them because I thought his legs looked dirty. I'll try and take some pics this weekend.
