Mary, thanks for all the excellent pictures of the barn make-over. So many good ideas, and my H2B is excited to build me a better coop (love that man) but he's really really new to chickens so he's looking for ideas. I'm going to give him this thread and let him see all the pics of your setup.
Ironically, I had wanted to do the nest boxes like your in my original design a few years ago but it didn't work out that way. Now my plan has changed a little. Since the Icelandics seem more than capable of getting up high, I would like to put the nest boxes on legs, elevating them off the floor 3 feet or so, and enclose around the legs. This will give me a space to store the bins I keep feed in which I can access from the brooder room without using up additional floor space.
Now I'm off to work.
