Icelandic Chickens

Mary,

I need to ship Isi out to you! He would have that crew shaped up in no time at all! Unforunately, he has his hands full here and hates flying.

Not sure what happened to Jazz. He always came up under my bedroom window every morning to beg treats for the girls...round 7am. I noticed that he hadnt been there that morning. Looked for him again at feeding time and no sign of him. No feather trail in the yard so I have to think hawk (and we have quite a few right now) or a coyote at night. He was such a good boy.

Good luck! And prepare to be a candle-a-holic! They are super easy to see into!

I'm looking forward to being able to see inside. H2B is being super interested and excited about my habit, he hasn't suggested 12 steps yet, but he's only been through one hatch and the eggs were all green and dark brown. I could see just a little through the brown but nadda through the green. So I'm thinking he's doesn't get why I'm so excited to candle. Can't wait to spread the disease - I mean - joy

Kathy,

The Silkies got a new home, the folks fell in love about two weeks ago but had no coop. Soooooo I slowly prepared them, and they got feeders, a water system, all the while the husband was slowly building a chicken house....get this...attached to the house! Their kitchen window now opens to the window of the chicken house. The result is that everyone is always going to the window! The folks home school and have two teenage boys, they check on the chicks about every 30 minutes! Their mom is even more observant looking in on them about every 15 minutes. She told me in the beginning that they wanted NO Roosters! Then they came back yesterday to tell me with great excitement that they think they have a rooster and the rest are hens and they are so excited that they can't wait for new babies....I think they have chicken fever!

The Icelandics have diverse combs, mostly solid colors, no crests as of yet, and there is a great difference in size between a couple already. The little white feathered legged one is ALL ROOSTER! He has outgrown the others fatser than any Icelandic I ever had. he is literally twice as big as the others. And I have a little chipmunk that is my tiny baby girl. The little blacks started out as the smallest but have kept up with the others now and are average. These guys really eat!n

It is very warm here now about 78, it was 82 just a couple of days ago so we are getting into spring. It can be really up and down here, like we could still get a hard freeze in April after days in the 80's.

All the others are doing great in my program, laying but no broodiness yet.... I'm sure its coming though!

Ya'll have a great day!
