I am assuming the ones that hatch with obvious combs are boys. Is that a logical assumption?

Hold on while I gaze into my crystal ball.............................

Nope, cuz they can have so many different comb types! You'll probably have more luck with eeny meeny miney mo.

My crystal ball is still packed, maybe I could dangle a ring on a string and see if it rotates clockwise

I don't have any yet either. I hatched some, but Mary took them back. (long story, but the short version, I was REALLY REALLY sick and didn't feel I could care for them at the time)

Mary is *supposed* to give me a pretty pullet or 2 someday. But it's all about the emu right now.

On another note, I'm thinking I will color code the Icelandics with zip ties till they are big enough for legbands. Red for Mary's and then Green for Kathy's. That way, as they grow I can still know who came from where and see how they pair up as they mature. I'm not going to select pairs I'll simply let nature take it's course.

I will show you an example of why the leg thickness does not work on the Icelandics. While these are poor photos, you will get the idea.
Here are Kola (female) and my male Koppur (meaning small vessel), that I hatched. Kola, of course, is the black one. I always thought I had one of each sex, but I thought Kola was the male.
